Powerful Conversations @ the U of M: Building Energy Democracy in Minneapolis

Bring a friend or two! An interactive space to learn about our relationship and history with our current energy system, its impacts on Minneapolis communities, and tools we can use to expand local solutions for our future.

See Facebook page for the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1609054422717169/

By attending this community teach-in, you will join more than 500 of your Minneapolis neighbors who have joined in the discussion to learn about and grow power and momentum around local & equitable clean energy. As a coalition, Community Power helped secure Minneapolis' first-in-the-nation Clean Energy Partnership between Minneapolis and its utilities. Together we are building a movement to transform the traditional utility business model into decentralized community-owned renewable energy.

Come listen, learn, ask, and share about these questions and others you don't get time for in class:

*Why do solar, wind, and energy efficiency generate far more jobs per dollar invested than coal and natural gas?

*Since renewable energy is becoming more & more cost-effective, what are the root causes of hikes in what we pay for electricity?

*Are coal and nuclear plants truly necessary as back up for solar and wind energy?

* What are models for achieving 100% renewable energy?

We are working to ensure the Clean Energy Partnership is accessible & relevant to renters, groups from diverse cultural backgrounds, and low-income communities who can benefit the most. Ask us how you can support this work through our Action & Ward teams!

ALL experience levels with this topic are very welcome! We invite you to share your questions, knowledge, passion and confusion. We promise it will be a compelling discussion...And moreover, there will be snacks.

Thank you to our wonderful host, Marissa, for providing the space for us all to gather!
