A key component of the Transition Town discussions which Corcoran Grows is a part of is engagement on a local level to plan for a more resilient and sustainable energy future. The Transition Town vision inspired Minneapolis community members to organize the last two years for growing a socially just local economy through community-based energy systems. The efforts of Minneapolis Energy Options have culminated in Minneapolis forming the first in the nation city-utility partnership. This community teach-in event on the economic and political dynamics behind our energy utility system is essential to building a base of effective advocates that can ensure that Minneapolis’s innovative, first in the nation city-utility partnership will be effective in accomplishing significant change toward the Transition Town vision next year.
