Golden Valley Powerful Conversations with City Council Candidate Andy Schuler

Come hear the story on how Community Power led a groundbreaking campaign that has led to the formation of the nation’s first ever Clean Energy Partnership in Minneapolis. The story provides inspiration on how other cities can create a decision making environment where local, equitable energy solutions that serve the public interest can win.

To date, Community Power has offered over three dozen similar teach-ins as part of the Powerful Conversations Tour. We will explore how status quo energy utility economics and structures present barriers to expanding local, equitable renewable energy solutions, as a way to unveil tools we have as a community to achieve our energy vision. By combining energy data, community outreach and strategic policy into innovative ways to incentivize energy efficiency, we have an opportunity to move tens of millions of energy dollars annually back into the pockets of families and businesses, while creating local jobs focused in neighborhoods experiencing the highest amount of energy poverty.

Come listen, learn, ask, and share about these questions and others you don't always get time for in class:

*Why do solar, wind, and energy efficiency generate far more jobs per dollar invested than coal and natural gas?

*Since renewable energy is becoming more & more cost-effective, what are the actual root causes of hikes in what we pay for electricity?

*Are coal and nuclear plants necessary or helpful as back up for solar and wind energy?

ALL experience levels with this topic are very welcome! We invite you to bring a friend and join the nearly 600 neighbors from all over the Twin Cities who have contributed their questions, knowledge, and passion to these important conversations.
