The Powerful Conversations Tour: Building an Empowered Community Ready to Direct Our Energy Future

Come listen, learn, ask, and share! Please bring a friend or neighbor!

Minneapolis community members have been grassroots organizing for the last two years for greater local control over our energy future with a vision of making sustainable energy options more affordable for a greater number of residents. As a result of this mobilization the city of Minneapolis is forming an innovative, first-in-the-nation clean energy partnership with utilities Xcel and Centerpoint, which the will give the City shared decision-making power. Event hosts Lyn Mitchell and Peg Thomas are inspired by a vision of mobilizing Minneapolis neighborhood organizations to take advantage of the program opportunities the city-utility partnership will offer next year.

This two-hour teach-in will clarify the basic economic, technical & political dynamics behind our energy utility system as well as the formula on how to get to 100% renewables in order to build a base of effective advocates. Together we will to ensure that Minneapolis’ innovative, first in the nation city-utility partnership will be effective in growing a socially just, job creating local economy through community-based energy systems.

Upon shared values of transparency, corporate accountability and market honesty, Minneapolis Energy Options will also be connecting with the group Right to Know Minnesota which is trying to pass a bill to label GMOs on behalf of our right to know what is in our food. It is a growing priority to engage other pro-local control movements into planning and participating in energy.
