We as Minneapolis community members have been grassroots organizing for the last two years with a vision of making renewable energy and energy efficiency innovations more affordable for a greater number of people. As a result of our mobilization the City of Minneapolis signed an innovative, first in the nation, Clean Energy partnership with utilities Xcel and Centerpoint, which will give the City (a.k.a you and me) shared decision making power over programs that can grow a socially-just, job-creating local economy through community based energy systems. Together our story has the potential to be a nationwide inspiration for leveraging positive change in energy utility business model.
Join us in the early for part of this event when Ward 1 City Council member Kevin Reich will share about his new role as a member of the City-Utility partnership board, to listen to ideas you have and to answer any questions constituents have for him.
This community discussion is open to all Minneapolis residents and anyone else interested in learning the possibilities of our collective energy future.
Your input will make it a success!
We will also have a presentation on the brief history of our energy system, how we can improve upon our current devastatingly inefficient energy system and how we can utilize this new partnership to move tens of millions of energy dollars annually back into the pockets of Minneapolis families and businesses, while creating local jobs with a special focus on neighborhoods suffering the worst effects of energy poverty.
Food and Drinks will be provided.
